Biography

Monif C. is a fashion forward, plus-size designer brand specializing in clothing and swimsuits for women sizes 14 – 24. Frustrated with the lack of trendy plus size clothing, in 2005 with no prior fashion design experience, Monif C. was founded by the mother-daughter team of Elaine and Monif Clarke. Initially taking her ideas to major retailers, Monif was often told that her designs were too sexy and that “plus-size women preferred not show off their bodies.” As a confident plus size woman, Monif knew that there needed to be a fresh perspective for plus size women in the fashion industry. Together with her mother, she founded what is now one of the world’s leading plus size fashion companies. Monif C. was built with little to no funding, no formal fashion school training, and no industry connections. Fueled by a desire to be able to dress her own plus size body, Monif used her background in Math and Computer Science to build her own website, scoured Google to learn how to design clothing, and used guerilla marketing tactics to build an evangelical customer base.

Built on a foundation of great fit, quality and vibrancy, Monif C. is the quintessential brand for the confident, fashion-forward plus size woman. In September 2017, Monif C. will celebrate 12 years serving plus size women. Monif C. continues to lead the body confidence conversation and break down barriers that separate straight-size and plus-size fashion.
