Malou C. Harrison is the Interim President of Miami Dade College’s North Campus, the College’s first location that opened in 1960, and also oversees MDC West the institution’s newest campus. She has served MDC in various capacities since 1989, including as dean of students, chief of staff to the College president and adjunct professor of English for academic purposes. In her role as dean of students, she provided leadership for the comprehensive enrollment management function of a Campus that enrolls 50,000+ students annually. As Chief of Staff to the President of Miami Dade College, she was charged with oversight responsibility for functions such as the College’s Division of Public Affairs and Media Relations as well as the operational and administrative functions of the College President’s Office.
Harrison has a long record of administrative experiences in public education administration as evidenced by her 19 year tenure as an administrator at Miami Dade College as well her seven-year administrative appointment at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY). Complementing this professional career, Harrison has also served as an adjunct professor of English for Academic Purposes also known as English as a Second Language (ESL) for some five years.
Harrison is currently completing doctoral studies in Community College Leadership. She has a Master’s Degree in TESOL from Florida International University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
In addition to serving on the Blue Ribbon Panel of the Community College Consortium for Immigrant Education, Malou also serves on the Learning Outcomes Coordinating Council at Miami Dade College, the Coordinating Council of Miami Dade County Sister Cities International, and the Board of Directors of Miami Book Fair International. She has written many articles of cultural significance and recently co-authored a piece that has been published in the League for Innovation in the Community College’s Student Services Dialogues: Community College Case Studies to Consider, as well as the Association of American College and Universities’ (AAC&U) Peer Review: Models for Student Success: Developing a Community College Student Roadmap
