In 2012 Mandela developed a well-respected edtech startup Tioki, the “LinkedIn for Educators,” went on to raise capital from several well-known investors (e.g. Kapor Capital, 500 Startups, Imagine K12), form partnerships with some of the most prestigious education organizations (e.g. Teach for America, University of Southern California), and has presented at various high- profile events (e.g. Bill & Melinda Gates Symposium, Facebook Female Entrepreneurs).
In 2013, Mandela was named the Director of Education for Entrepreneurs at UPGlobal, which has now become the largest grassroots initiative dedicated to fostering education entrepreneurship around the world. Most recently, Mandela was named to the 2014 Forbes “30 Under 30 in Education” list, a distinction that recognizes her influential accomplishments at the intersection of education, technology and entrepreneurship.
